Copyright Policy
Photocopies of articles or book chapters placed on reserve must meet the requirements of fair use as defined by federal law (Title 17, Sec. 107). The four fair use factors include the character of the use, the nature of the work to be used, the amount of the work that will be used, and what, if any, effect the use will have on the market for the original work. The copyright guidelines listed below are in accord with these factors.
Each copy or electronic reserve must include any copyright statement from the original work and appropriate citations and attributions to the source.
Photocopied or electronic reserve materials will be limited to single articles or chapters from a work; several charts, graphs, or illustrations from a work; or other small parts of a work. These materials must constitute only a small part of the materials required for the course.
Either the faculty member or the library must legally own the original.
Public access will be password protected and will, therefore, be limited to students enrolled in the class. This access will be terminated at the end of each class term.
Articles linked from the full-text databases to which the library subscribes are governed by licensing agreements, not copyright, and may, therefore, be used as needed.
