Laptop Circulation Policy

Laptop computers are available for checkout from the laptop circulation desk in the basement of Bailey Library. Laptops are checked out on a first-come, first-served basis, and are available for use in conjunction with the Library wireless network only. Laptops may not be taken from the building. Laptops circulate for periods of 2 hours or less.

To borrow a laptop you must have a valid SRU ID, and must read and sign the Laptop Borrowers Agreement. If the borrower has outstanding library fines or charges that prevent them from checking out other library materials, they will not be allowed to checkout laptops.

All user files must be saved to the H or I drive, a CD-R or a floppy disk before returning to the laptop desk. Users are not able to install applications on the laptops. The Library does not assume any responsibility for files left on the hard drive. Users may print to a networked printer in the Reference Room.

Users are responsible for loss, theft, or damage to laptops and accessories. Do not leave your laptop unattended. When returning your laptop, make sure a staff member at the laptop desk checks the laptop in and verifies that the equipment is in good working order. In case of a library evacuation, keep the laptop with you and return it when you are permitted to re-enter the building.

Loan Periods and Hours

A laptop may be checked out for up to 2 hours. Due to the limited number of laptops available, they may not be reserved. They may be renewed if available. Laptops are available for checkout from library opening to 1 hour before closing. Closing times vary on weekends, during breaks, extended hours, and holiday periods.

Terms and Conditions

There will be a $1.00 hourly charge for the late return of laptops. These fines will be attached to the user’s library record and may result in registration restrictions or the blocking of transcripts.
